Privacy Policy for CarState app

Last updated: August 23, 2026

CarState (“the App”) is developed by Illarion Volynets (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.

Information We Collect

CarState allows you to store information about your vehicles, including details you enter (such as make, model, and notes), photos, and PDF documents (such as service records or insurance papers) you choose to add.

  • Vehicle data, photos, and documents: Stored using Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit), tied to your personal Apple ID.
  • Account sign-in: The App uses “Sign in with Apple.” Depending on your choice during sign-in, Apple may share your name and/or email address with the App. This information is shown to you within the App’s Settings tab as your account identifier and is not used for any other purpose. If you choose not to share your email, the App simply shows that no email is available.
  • Camera/Photo Library access: The App requests access to your camera and/or photo library only so you can add a photo of your vehicle. Photos are never accessed or used for any other purpose.
  • Notifications: With your permission, the App schedules local notifications on your device — for example, reminders about upcoming or overdue service, mileage entry reminders, and alerts when a shared vehicle becomes available. These are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device; we do not operate a push notification server, and no notification content is sent to us.
  • Vehicle sharing: CarState lets you share a vehicle’s information with another user. This is done entirely through Apple’s CloudKit sharing feature, directly between the Apple ID accounts involved.
  • Report an Issue (optional): The Settings tab includes an optional “Report an Issue” button that opens your device’s email app with some diagnostic information pre-filled, addressed to our support inbox. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send that email yourself. Any information you include is used solely to help troubleshoot your issue.

How Your Data Is Stored

All data you enter into CarState — including vehicle details, photos, PDF documents, and sharing between accounts — is stored and synced via Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit, under your own Apple ID. We do not operate our own servers or backend of any kind, and we do not have access to your data. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s own Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. CarState does not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting services. No data is transmitted to us automatically — all storage, sync, sharing, and notifications run through Apple’s own infrastructure. The only way information reaches us directly is if you choose to email us (e.g., via “Report an Issue” or “Rate app,” which links to the App Store).

Children’s Privacy

CarState is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your Choices

Since your data lives in your own iCloud account, you can delete it at any time by deleting the relevant entries within the App, or by removing the App’s data via your iCloud account settings.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
